Thirty-odd years of catering does something funny to you. You stop just showing up to events and start actually belonging to them. You learn the quirks of certain venues, you know which team member works best on which station and somewhere along the way, certain places just start to feel like home.
The Barn at Pengelly is one of those places for Hog Roast Truro.
We’ve been official partners with this gorgeous Cornish venue for years now, and hand on heart – it never loses its charm. Every visit feels familiar in the best possible way. Rolling countryside stretching out beyond the barn doors, a working farm sitting quietly in the background, lakes that catch the light just right on a clear day. It’s the kind of setting that does half the work for you before a single guest has even arrived.
What makes it genuinely special though, is how adaptable it is. There’s a real warmth to the place, but also this understated elegance that you can pull in completely different directions depending on the couple. No two weddings there ever feel quite the same either, which keeps things interesting – even for us, and we’ve seen plenty.
Hog Roast Truro’s most recent visit here was for a wedding with just 34 guests – deliberately small, deliberately intimate, and honestly? Completely lovely because of it. The couple weren’t after anything showy. They just wanted good food, good company and a day that felt relaxed and comfortable.
So we delivered our Gourmet BBQ Menu. Led by our man Rik, the spread included handmade British beef burgers, gourmet sausages, Thai chicken kebabs and sticky BBQ spareribs – fried onions and melting cheese available for those who wanted the full works. Meat eaters were deeply happy, let’s put it that way.
Veggie and vegan guests weren’t disappointed either. Two dedicated meat-free options sat alongside homemade coleslaw, potato salad and sweet potato and classic fries – loads of sauces and seasonings on the side too. It was relaxed, delicious and even better than what they’d had in mind.
