People love to say wedding planning is magical, but they always leave out the part where you suddenly become a full-time organiser, accountant and negotiator overnight. One minute you’re talking about playlists and flowers, the next you’re comparing seating plans at half eleven at night wondering how on earth everyone else makes it look easy.
That’s why finding suppliers you can properly rely on makes such a difference.
Food especially. It’s one of the few parts of a wedding every single guest remembers afterwards. Nobody goes home talking about the shade of ribbon tied around the favours, but they absolutely remember a good meal. Or a bad one.
Luckily, the couple we recently worked with had that bit sorted early and brought Hog Roast Par in to handle the catering side of things for their celebration. Smart move, honestly.
The wedding itself had around 70 guests and a really relaxed atmosphere from the beginning. The couple told us they didn’t want unnecessary fuss or overly-complicated ideas trying too hard to impress people. Their vision was clear and simple: they wanted good company, loads of laughter and the sort of setting where everyone settles in quickly and actually enjoys themselves.
Hog Roast Par’s catering manager, Rik and the team arrived with plenty of time to get everything prepared before service started. If you’ve never seen a hog roast being cooked properly before, it’s hard to explain how quickly it grabs attention – people start casually wandering over “just to have a look” and before long they’re hovering nearby waiting to sneak a piece of crackling. And, honestly, that’s fair enough.
Once everything was ready, guests tucked into soft rolls filled with juicy pulled pork, crispy crackling, stuffing and applesauce, while the side dishes disappeared almost as quickly as they were set down. Herby potatoes, fresh salads, coleslaw and fries kept plates looking full without things feeling too heavy.
One thing the couple cared about was making sure everybody had something decent to eat, including vegetarian and vegan guests. That was all covered too, which meant nobody was left picking at plain salad leaves while everyone else tucked into the main spread.
By the end of the night, people were still drifting back to the Hog Roast Par buffet for “just one more” plate, which is usually the best sign a menu has gone down well.
The newlyweds were thrilled, the guests left happy and full, and most importantly, the day felt easy. That’s really what good wedding catering should do – make things feel effortless when everything else already feels busy enough.
