Some people celebrate their birthday with a quiet dinner. Others go all out with a big party. And then there are the absolute legends who look at their social circle, realise a few mates or relatives share birthdays around the same time, and decide – why not just combine the whole lot into one massive celebration?
That’s exactly what happened on the 2nd of May, and honestly? We respect it entirely.
Hog Roast Redruth was brought in to cater for a joint birthday bash that brought together 100 guests for an afternoon of good weather, great company and – if we do say so ourselves – seriously impressive food. With temperatures sitting comfortably in the low twenties, conditions were near perfect. All the party needed was a spread worthy of the occasion – and we brought our A-game.
The centrepiece was, naturally, a whole hog roast. The pig had been hand-selected from a local farm – because quality starts before anything even hits the flame – and our catering manager Rob took it from there. Low and slow was the name of the game, tending to the meat throughout the day until the crackling reached that deeply satisfying crunch and the pork inside was tender enough to pull apart without a second thought. Served up with sage and onion stuffing, applesauce and a proper selection of sides – tomato and mozzarella salad, mixed salad, coleslaw, a potato dish and a choice of rolls or wraps – every plate came together beautifully.

Veggies and vegans had zero reason to feel like an afterthought either. As expected, Hog Roast Redruth’s famous grilled vegetable kebabs with optional halloumi were an instant hit, but it was our BBQ-pulled jackfruit sliders that had the edge this time around – packed with flavour and satisfying in a way that surprises people every single time.
And just when guests thought they were done? Out came the chip butties. Thick, warm, generously filled and sitting alongside salt, vinegar and a lineup of sauces. Nobody said no. Nobody.
It was one of those afternoons that just worked – the kind where everything slots together and people linger longer than planned because nobody really wants it to end. Hog Roast Redruth was glad to be part of it.
