It’s been a busy old month for Hog Roast Penryn, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. The moment Mariah Carey made her annual comeback on the radio, we knew exactly what we were in for. And sure enough our calendars filled up fast. December quickly became a blur of fairy lights, festive playlists and very full serving trays!
Now, some folks mark the countdown to Christmas with an advent calendar and a daily dose of chocolate. But Hog Roast Penryn’s version looks a little different. For us, December is measured in events – and this year, we were lucky enough to be invited to all sorts of festive get-togethers.
Office parties where co-workers could connect in person rather than by email, family gatherings that turned into full-on feasts, and plenty of Friendmas nights where the food became the main event. So when we were asked to cater a Christmas party for around 100 guests at Raze the Roof, a soft play and activity centre in Kernick, we couldn’t help but grin. A Christmas party surrounded by slides and laughter? Yes please!
The venue already had the energy sorted. Our job was to make sure the food lived up to it. After chatting through ideas with the client and getting a feel for the vibe they wanted, we landed on our Southern Slow Roast Menu. It’s bold, comforting and perfect for a winter party where no one wants to leave hungry.
With an 8pm serving time locked in, our catering manager, Jack and the Hog Roast Penryn team spent the afternoon working their magic. Soon, they had rustled up a selection of Texan-style beef brisket, slow-cooked until it barely needed a knife, Cajun-spiced whole chickens with just enough heat to keep things interesting and Sticky Louisiana pork ribs that lived up to their name in the best possible way.
We also made sure the non-meat-eaters were just as well looked after, with BBQ pulled jackfruit and a line-up of sides that everyone got excited about. Creamy potato salad, fresh Greek salad and irresistibly cheesy mac and cheese. Add bread rolls, wraps and a few sauces for good measure, and the spread was complete.
Judging by the empty plates and happy faces, it went down a treat. Another December night done right, and another reason Hog Roast Penryn loves this time of year.
