What’s the thing you want most when you come out of the sea after a refreshing paddle, swim or surf in the cool water? Could it be a cold drink, or maybe an ice cream? Well what about freshly roasted, sumptuously seasoned pork with crackling on a tasty wholemeal bun? Disagree? Well think again, because we have just done an event where the only things that didn’t come out of the sea to eat at our stall were mermaids!
Spitting Pig Cornwall provided catering at an all-day beach event, which ran through the day and long into the night. It was organised by a local charity and, in addition to an amateur surfing competition in the area’s world renowned surf, the event included a host of family-friendly competitions and fun for people of all ages.
With crowds of mainly young families throughout the day, followed by hundreds of young adults dancing to live music in the evening, we catered for a wide range of people.
We had one of our busiest, fun days since we became established in the area several years ago – and we are proud to say we contributed to a good cause in the process.
The hog roasts sizzled late into the night as revellers huddled around small camp fires, chewing on delicious, traditionally-roasted meats. The event was a great success for the charity and raised thousands on the day. But it was also a big success for Spitting Pig Cornwall, as hundreds of people enjoyed our succulent foods throughout the day, with some asking whether we could cater at their event too.
The sun shone kindly on the event and the crowds flocked to the beach, paying a charitable admission fee before getting involved in a host of fun events. Yours truly even had a go, and came second in the horseshoe-throwing competition. And I have the little rosette to prove it! (I’d have won if they’d have taken the shoe off the horse first!)
But my main job on the day was making sure that the hungry appetites of all sizes were satisfied. And they sure were! We weren’t the only caterer at the event, as there were hot dog and hamburger vans also on the beach, but we were certainly the busiest. We had a range of foods available, from the open hog roast to barbecues cooking chicken, beef and fish. We also provided fresh, mixed salad for those who wanted more of a meal and not just succulent meat on a bun.
The charity have since been in touch to ask if we’d like to get involved next year – and we’re looking forward to it, But in the meantime, we have several events to focus on (two of which we took bookings for on the beach) and we’re looking forward to a busy summer when we are catering for three large outdoor events, including a wedding at a well-known stately home.
