Hog Roast Downinney’s Hawaiian Luau Experience

It’s not terribly often that the UK sees much in the way of beautiful weather, so when the sun does come out to play for a few short weeks of the year, we think you’ll agree that it’s important to make the most of every glorious moment of it. And so, as the temperatures soared in the high 20’s across the country last month, our team from Hog Roast Downinney had their hands full with all kinds of catering requests. From outdoor birthday celebrations and alfresco dinner parties to smoky barbeque’s – yes, it was pretty much garden parties galore here in Cornwall!

In the height of the fabulous sunshine, Hog Roast Downinney’s crew even attended a luau party, which had been organised by Alexandra as a way of getting her family all together for once. And with no luau in history ever being complete without a traditional, spit-roasted hog, she was hot on the phones to our team, who were just as excited as she was about the occasion.

Hog Roast DowninneyChoosing from our rich pool of menu items, Alexandra took the advice of our catering manager, Paul, on board when she opted for our Classic Hog Roast Menu, which couldn’t have matched her needs more closely. Comprising of a rich, flavour-packed rotisserie-cooked free-range pig, served with freshly made applesauce, gorgeous crackling, hearty stuffing, side salads and yummy potatoes dressed in a delightful herb butter, this sensational spread was ideal in every sense of the word. After that, all there was left to do was wait for the day of the party to arrive!

Before the guests’ arrival in the early afternoon, Hog Roast Downinney set up the cooking equipment out back. And they even helped Alexandra with the decorations, which, as you might have guessed, included lots of grass skirts (even for the tables!), paper pineapple garlands, tiki torches and cocktails served in authentic coconut shells. Alexandra really had thought of everything, and the guests, dressed to the nines in floral leis and hula attire, were amazed by the lengths she had gone to, to make the evening a success.

The food itself was a massive hit, and with plenty to go around, the guests were welcome to tuck in to extra helpings as the party progressed into the night.
